What Is Bonded Interlining?
Bonded interlining is an extra layer that is built into the lining of a Roman blind. A Roman blind normally consists of a decorative face fabric, which is the fabric you see from inside the room, and a lining behind it.
With bonded interlining, a soft interlining layer is bonded directly to the lining fabric. This creates a slightly thicker lining with small fibres that form a gentle air gap between the face fabric and the lining.
This additional layer helps improve the overall performance of the blind while also giving the fabric a more luxurious appearance.
Improved Thermal Performance
The air gap created by the bonded interlining helps slow the transfer of heat through the window.
When the blind is fully lowered, this additional layer can help reduce heat loss from the room during colder months. It can also help reflect some heat away from the window in warmer weather.
It’s important to remember that this benefit only applies when the blind is in the down position. When the blind is raised, the window is uncovered and the insulation effect is no longer present.
- Creates a small insulating air gap
- Helps reduce heat loss through windows
- Can improve comfort near the window
Blackout and Standard Bonded Linings
Bonded interlining is available with both standard lining and blackout lining options.
This allows you to choose the level of light control you need while still benefiting from the added structure and insulation the bonded interlining provides.
- Bonded standard lining
- Bonded blackout lining
- Suitable for all fabrics in our Roman blind range
When Bonded Interlining Is Recommended
In some cases, bonded interlining is recommended simply to improve the appearance of the blind.
Some decorative fabrics, particularly lighter or more satin-like materials, can appear a little thin or limp when made into a Roman blind. Adding bonded interlining gives the fabric more body and structure so the blind hangs more attractively.
This can make a noticeable difference to the finished look of the blind at the window.
Why We Use Bonded Interlining
We use bonded interlining rather than a separate interlining layer when making Roman blinds.
A separate interlining would add too much thickness to the blind. When the blind is raised, the folds would become bulky and would project too far out into the room.
This makes the blind look untidy and prevents it from stacking neatly at the top of the window.
Bonded interlining solves this problem by adding the benefits of interlining without creating excessive bulk.
