Polyvinyl Plantation Shutters

Polyvinyl shutters are a durable and practical type of plantation shutter designed for rooms where moisture can be an issue. Because the material is waterproof, they are often chosen for bathrooms, kitchens and utility rooms where traditional wooden shutters may not be suitable.

These shutters are made from a solid polyvinyl material rather than a hollow plastic. This gives the panels a reassuring weight and strength, helping them feel more substantial than many lower-quality plastic shutter systems.

They provide the same classic plantation shutter look, with adjustable louvres that allow you to control light, privacy and airflow throughout the day.

A Strong and Rigid Shutter Design

Although the shutters are made from polyvinyl, they are reinforced internally to help maintain their shape and durability over time.

Inside the side styles of the shutter panels there is a square aluminium reinforcement bar. This helps keep the panels rigid and prevents them from twisting or warping.

On wider panels, the louvres are also reinforced with a discreet metal rod that runs through them. This helps prevent bowing and keeps the louvres straight even on larger shutters.

Different Louvre Control Options

Like many plantation shutters, polyvinyl shutters allow you to adjust the louvres to control the amount of light entering the room.

There are several different control options available depending on the look you prefer.

  • Traditional centre tilt rod
  • Semi-concealed rear tilt rod
  • Fully concealed rack and pinion mechanism

The concealed mechanism option gives the cleanest appearance across the shutter panels.

Ideal for Bathrooms and Kitchens

One of the main advantages of polyvinyl shutters is their resistance to moisture. Because the material is waterproof, it will not absorb humidity in the same way as natural wood.

This makes them a popular choice for rooms where steam, condensation or splashes of water are more common.

They can be wiped clean easily and are designed to cope well with everyday household conditions.

Panel Construction

The shutter panels are assembled using screws rather than glued joints. This construction method creates a strong and durable panel that is designed to last.

When the shutters are closed, they provide a clean and practical finish across the window. When the panels are folded fully back, the construction can be slightly more visible than some other shutter materials, although this does not affect their performance.

UK Made Shutters

Our polyvinyl shutters are manufactured in the UK and are typically available in around six to seven weeks from final measure.

This shorter lead time can be helpful for customers who would like shutters fitted sooner, particularly for bathrooms or newly renovated spaces.
