Why the Hinge Is Important
The hinge is what allows your shutter panels to open and close easily. It supports the full weight of the panel and plays a key role in the overall look and longevity of your shutters.
- Supports the weight of each shutter panel
- Allows smooth opening and closing
- Can be adjusted slightly over time if needed
- Contributes to the overall finish and appearance
Hinge Colour Options
Most customers choose a hinge colour that complements their shutter finish.
- White hinges for white shutters
- Off-white hinges for off-white shutters
- Black hinges
- Chrome-coloured hinges
- Brass hinges
- Antique brass hinges
- No price difference between colour options
Choosing a complementary hinge colour creates a cohesive look, although contrasting finishes can also be selected for a more decorative style.

What About Hidden Hinges?
Fully concealed (hidden) hinges are available, but they are not something we regularly recommend.
- Hidden from view when the panels are closed
- Not adjustable once installed
- More difficult to maintain over time
- Natural gravity can cause gradual panel drop
One of the advantages of a standard hinge is that it can be adjusted slightly if panels begin to drop due to weight and regular use.
With concealed hinges, this adjustment is not possible. Over time, this may result in panels appearing slightly less aligned — particularly on frequently used shutters such as tier-on-tier designs.
While hidden hinges can be supplied, we usually recommend standard adjustable hinges for long-term practicality.
